code switching

a speaker does not necessarily have to follow a particular variety or dialect all the time in the course of communication. he may change form the standard language to the non-standard language, he may shift his subject matter which dominates the incidence of vocabulary, he may move from one point on the formality scale to another point. this linguistic behavior is referred to as code-switching.
